College Overview

The College of International Education, International Exchange and Cooperation Center, and the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Affairs Office of Bohai University operate under a joint administration, with a total of 17 administrative and international Chinese language teaching staff. The college is dedicated to advancing the internationalization of the university’s overall educational framework, fostering extensive exchanges and cooperation with internationally renowned universities, educational institutions, and enterprises. It aims to support the integrated development of disciplines across schools, cultivate internationally competitive talents, enhance the education of international students, and contribute to the “Double First-Class” initiative in various academic fields. The overarching goal is to accelerate and strengthen mutual learning, compatibility, and connectivity with higher education institutions worldwide, thereby creating a more comprehensive, broad-based, multi-level, and proactive landscape for opening up education to the global community.

Bohai University actively engages in international exchange and cooperation, establishing partnerships with over 30 foreign universities and educational institutions across countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Poland, France, South Korea, Russia, Burundi, the Central African Republic, and Cyprus. The university has also formed cooperative relationships with sixteen foreign enterprises. In March 2012, the China Scholarship Council approved the university’s ISEC International Undergraduate Academic Recognition Program. In March 2021, the Ministry of Education approved the Sino-foreign cooperative education program in Food Science and Engineering jointly offered by Bohai University and Warsaw University of Life Sciences.

The university currently operates two overseas Confucius Institutes: the Confucius Institute at the University of Burundi and the Confucius Institute at the University of Bangui in the Central African Republic. The Confucius Institute at the University of Burundi was officially inaugurated in July 2012 and now oversees 24 Chinese language teaching centers and one Confucius Classroom. In 2016, the Confucius Institute at the University of Burundi was recognized as a Global Model Confucius Institute. In November 2019, our university was approved to establish the Confucius Institute at the University of Bangui in collaboration with the University of Bangui in the Central African Republic. The university bears primary responsibility for the operation of both Confucius Institutes, ensuring their daily functioning, providing professional and specialized human resources, cultivating high-quality local international Chinese language teachers, and dedicating itself to the cause of international Chinese language education. These efforts promote global cultural exchange and deepen international understanding.

The university obtained international student enrollment qualifications in 1998. In 2014, it was designated as a commissioned training institution for government-sponsored international students and approved as an HSK Chinese Proficiency Test center. Through rapid development in recent years and the establishment of overseas Confucius Institutes, the university now holds dual enrollment qualifications: accepting both Chinese Government Scholarship students and International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship students, in addition to regular admissions. The university has gradually established high-quality student recruitment bases through its Confucius Institutes and the Korean branch of the International Education College, attracting students from over 70 countries and regions worldwide. Concurrently, it has developed a multi-tiered training system centered on language trainees, undergraduates, and graduate students.

The International Education College oversees the enrollment management and Chinese language instruction for all international students at the university. In Chinese language teaching, it focuses on courses such as “Chinese Language” and “Introduction to China” for international students. The goal is to cultivate students’ Chinese language proficiency while familiarizing them with fundamental knowledge about China’s history, geography, society, economy, and other aspects of Chinese national conditions and culture. Students also gain an understanding of China’s political system and foreign policy, comprehend mainstream Chinese social values and public ethics, and develop into international talents who know and are friendly toward China.
