On November 17, the finals of the 8th Liaoshen Translation Competition—2025 Northeast China Invitational Tournament, jointly organized by the Publicity Department of the CPC Liaoning Provincial Committee, the Liaoning Provincial Department of Education, and the Liaoning Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, concluded successfully at the South Lake Campus of Northeastern University. Wang Wenfu, a Tanzanian international student from our university, won the second prize in the international student category. Zhang Junxiu and Shang Chao, faculty members from the College of International Education, received the Outstanding Mentor Award.

Centered on the theme “Serving the Comprehensive Revitalization of Northeast China in the New Era, Contributing to Building Northeast Asia's Open Cooperation Hub, Further Uncovering Outstanding Translation Talent, Discovering and Cultivating a Pool of Translation Resources,” this year's competition featured three tracks: Government Agencies, Higher Education Institutions, and International Students. It attracted numerous outstanding participants from the “Three Provinces and One Autonomous Region” of Northeast China (Liaoning, Jilin, Heilongjiang, and Inner Mongolia). The international student category, themed “My Life in Northeast China is Great,” featured 38 participants from universities including Dalian University of Technology, Northeastern University, Liaoning University, and Yanbian University. Contestants were required to deliver a 4-minute speech in Chinese showcasing their academic and personal experiences in the region. Wang Wenfu impressed the judges with his fluent Chinese, sincere emotions, and vivid storytelling.

To prepare for this competition, the College of International Education assembled a tiered professional coaching team comprising Zhang Junxiu, Shang Chao, and postgraduates in international Chinese education. They provided systematic and meticulous guidance to Wang Wenfu, covering pronunciation correction, speech content design, emotional expression, body language, and psychological regulation. Drawing on his personal experiences, the coaching team helped him uncover unique stories from his life and studies in Liaoning, highlighting authentic insights from a cross-cultural perspective.

This award demonstrates the enhanced language application and cross-cultural communication skills of Bohai University's international students, setting an example for others. It also reflects the outcomes of the university's “quality enhancement and efficiency improvement” training model, providing practical insights for optimizing future language and cultural education for international students. In the future, the university will continue to support international students in expanding their practical platforms to cultivate more global communicators who understand China's stories.
